Improving your short game is essential for lowering your scores and enhancing your overall golfing experience. At Shortees Golf, our Par 3 'Pitch and Putt' course located in Terrey Hills on Sydney’s Northern Beaches offers the perfect environment to hone these vital skills. Here are some tips to help you excel:

1. Choose the Right Club

Selecting the appropriate club is crucial for effective short game performance. An assortment of wedges are commonly used, with Sand Wedges and Lob Wedges for experienced golfers and the addition of a Pitching Wedge for the not-so experienced golfers. Adjusting your club selection based on the shot at hand can lead to better control and consistency.

2. Focus on Proper Technique

Hands Forward: Ensure your hands are positioned slightly ahead of the ball at address. This promotes a downward strike, leading to cleaner contact and better control.

Weight Distribution: Maintain approximately 70% of your weight on your front foot during chip and pitch shots. This helps achieve a consistent strike and prevents fat or thin shots.

Utilize the Bounce: Open the clubface slightly and focus on thumping the trailing edge of your wedge into the turf. This technique uses the club's bounce effectively, preventing digging and promoting smoother contact.

3. Prioritize Simplicity

Opt for the simplest shot that the situation allows. Whenever possible, choose a lower lofted club to execute a bump-and-run, reducing the margin for error compared to higher lofted shots.

4. Develop a Consistent Routine

Establishing a reliable pre-shot routine fosters rhythm and confidence. Practice with a consistent setup and swing tempo to build muscle memory and trust in your short game.

5. Practice with Purpose

Engage in deliberate practice by varying your lies and distances. Challenge yourself with different scenarios to simulate on-course conditions, enhancing your adaptability and skill under pressure.
By implementing these strategies and dedicating time to focused practice, you'll see significant improvements in your short game at Shortees Golf. Remember, consistency and confidence are key to mastering these essential shots.

6. Hit the practise putting green

Once you have put some time into your wedges, hit our putting practise green to round out your session. This gives you the perfect training combination of short game approaches & putting in real world situations that you will find on the course.
